World 2011 began with a simple challenge: if students can see problems clearly, they can help design better futures.

At the center of the project was ITU Telecom World 2011, where leaders from the telecommunications and technology sectors gathered in Geneva to discuss how connectivity could improve lives. World 2011 opened that conversation to classrooms by asking students to respond with their own practical ideas.

More than 10,000 students aged 8 to 18 took part, researching global issues, building prototypes, and sharing ideas that could make a real difference in their communities. Learn more on our Get Involved page to see how the classroom framework worked.

Their work fed into the World 2011 Manifesto for Change, a student-informed blueprint for using technology to make a real difference. What remains here is a cross-section of that energy: stories, challenge themes, and classroom examples that still feel relevant today.
